Project Spotlight: Exterior Repaint in Minnetonka, MN

We recently completed this full exterior repaint in Minnetonka near the Lake Street Extension area. The home originally had a very faded sky blue finish, and the homeowners wanted something darker and more modern that would completely transform the look of the property.
For this project, we used Sherwin-Williams Duration in Urban Bronze with a flat finish on the siding, gutters, detached garage, and backyard shed. The only areas we did not paint were the metal soffits on the home and garage.
Like many older wood lap siding homes in Minnesota, the exterior had areas of peeling paint and overall fading from years of weather exposure. Our prep process included scraping, machine sanding with 80-grit abrasives, spot priming exposed areas, and caulking where needed before applying two coats of paint.

We sprayed the siding and back rolled problem areas where additional saturation and adhesion were important. Over time, we’ve found this approach gives us a strong balance between durability, consistency, and efficiency on wood siding projects like this.
One thing our crew did especially well on this project was working around the homeowner’s landscaping and garden areas. There were a lot more plants and delicate areas than a typical project, so we took extra care protecting everything throughout the process.
This project took about four working days from start to finish, and the transformation from faded blue to Urban Bronze completely changed the feel of the home.
